Cinderella Earns $132.5M at Box Office for Disney

Cinderella arrived in theaters on March 13 and has raked in $132.5 million from the box office for the weekend of March 15.

Rentrak, which measures the box office performance of movies, announced Sunday the worldwide weekend box office estimates, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.

“It was a fairy tale weekend for Disney as the live-action ‘Cinderella‘ charms the global marketplace to the tune of $132.5 million, topping both the North American and the international box office charts,” said Rentrak’s senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

“In addition, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award-winning ‘Big Hero 6’ became the top animated title of 2014 with more than $620 million globally. The film, which has earned $221 million domestically, also surpasses $400 million at the international box office this weekend.”

According to Rentrak, the top 12 worldwide weekend box office estimates, listed in descending order, per data collected as of Sunday, March 15, 2015, are below.

2. Kingsman: The Secret Service – 20th Century Fox – $19.9M

3. Chappie – Sony – $19.4M

4. Focus – Warner Bros. – $19.3M

5. Run All Night – Warner Bros. – $17.6M

6. Big Hero 6 – Disney – $17.2M

7. Fifty Shades Of Grey – Universal – $11.2M

8. American Sniper – Warner Bros. – $10.9M

9. Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The – 20th Century Fox – $9.8M

10. Jupiter Ascending – Warner Bros. – $9.2M

11. Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out Of Water – Paramount – $8.4M

12. From Vegas to Macau II – Multiple – $5.0M
