Jurassic World to Cross $1 Billion Mark at Box Office

Jurassic World will eclipse the record set in 2009 by the feature film “Avatar,” which reached the $1 billion milestone in 17 days.

Rentrak, which measures the performance of movies, announced Sunday the worldwide box office estimates for the weekend of June 21, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.

It says that “Universal’s ‘Jurassic World‘ is all set to cross the $1 billion mark today after its release on June 12. Earlier, the film had recorded the weekend gross of $511.8 million in the first 3 days of its release.

Thus, Jurassic World will eclipse the record set in 2009 by the feature film “Avatar,” which reached the $1 billion milestone in 17 days.

“Dinosaurs and a new Pixar movie turned the box office inside out this weekend as Universal’s ‘Jurassic World’ continues its record smashing run with a massive worldwide total of $981.3 million and will cross the $1 billion mark on Monday,” said Rentrak’s senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Disney/Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’ got off to a fantastic start this weekend with an estimated global total of $132 million that combines the second biggest North American debut for a Pixar title of $91 million plus $41 million from five significant territories.”

According to Rentrak, the top 12 worldwide weekend box office estimates, listed in descending order, per data collected as of Sunday, June 21, 2015, are below.

1. Jurassic World – Universal – $262.5M

2. Inside Out – Disney – $132.1M

3. SPL 2 – Multiple – $29.0M

4. San Andreas – Warner Bros. – $27.0M

5. Spy – 20th Century Fox – $20.1M

6. Minions – Universal – $12.3M

7. Classified File, The – Showbox – $8.5M

8. Mad Max: Fury Road – Warner Bros. – $7.7M

9. Insidious Chapter 3 – Sony – $7.1M

10. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F – 20th Century Fox – $7.0M

11. Dope – Multiple – $6.0M

12. Entourage – Warner Bros. – $5.0M
